My Story

Assalaamu alaykum!

My name is Kaltun Karani and I’m the founder of Hikma Academy and author of Intentionally Rising.  I am a wife, mother, and daughter. I’m a Licensed School Counselor, Tafsir Teacher, and a Spiritual Life Coach. My mission is to use my background in Islamic studies and counseling to support the growth and healing of our ummah.

I believe life is blissful when we spend our days and nights creating a meaningful life that earns us the best in the akhira.

The transformation and lasting change we seek happens when we shift our beliefs and intentions.  Once we align our beliefs and intentions, the behaviors that match them will be inevitable. While I’ve been blessed with education in Islam and in Counseling, my work and passion stem from my personal experience of healing and growth.

I lived a life disconnected from Islamic practice until the day a beloved teacher mentioned the test of standing in front of Allah SWT and presenting our lives. At 23 years old, I was for the first time awakened to the reality of life. A simple reminder transformed my life and I started praying for the first time and never missed Salah intentionally since that day.

My faith grounded me and became my anchor as I navigated my own personal development and growth.  It made it easier for me to face my trauma, struggles, and lack of purpose.  My faith in Allah filled me with hope and grace for myself.  It also inspired ambition within me and fueled it with determination.  Through this process, I acquired tools and strategies that became not just a source of positive change for myself, but also for the community of women & youth I’ve been blessed to teach, mentor, and coach since 2008.
